So my new MR just turned a month old. I was driving home from Buschur Racing with my stage one kit in the trunk. Can't wait to get it on, oh it's going to be great. I spot a blue M3, buz past him. He catches up to me and floor it. I stay in front of him untill he backs off. I back off, let him catch up, give the friendly thumbs up. He's now in front of me so I step on the gas again. No power. "that's odd" I think to myself. Hit the accelerator again, I hear a slight flapping noise and feel a small vibration in the pedal. "Did I lose a boost hose?" I look at the boost guage. That's not it, there's plenty of boost. I hit the accelerator again, this time the noise sounds more like a clunk or a knock. "****, that's bad. I'd better pull over." I'm on the side of the highway now, pop the hood... "Oh god, is that comming from...." I pull on the the throttle cable. "Son of a! That's inside the block!"
I get her towed to Mitsu, she sits over the weekend (this happened on saturday). They "supposedly" looked at it on Monday. I had to call them.
"Yeah, it sounds like a spun bearing. We don't know for sure yet though 'cause we're still waiting to hear back from Mitsubishi to find out who's going to pay for the short block we just ordered." says the service advisor.
Excuse me? Find out who's going to pay for it? the car is a month old with 1500 miles on it.... why wouldn't mitsu pay for it?
"well, I haven't heard from them.... so untill they call me back I can't say anything."
Now, here's the kicker. I bought this car, and it had 394 miles on it (that was my first mistake, never buy an evo that has any miles on it from the dealer, I knew this, but I got caught up with having the first MR in town, etc. etc.) Well supposedly the those miles were put on by the owner of the dealership, and they were to take the car to the Columbus auto show. They swore to me that in the auto show, nobody sat in it, it was corded off and was just there to look at.
LIARS!!!!!
I have first hand accounts from buddies that that was the exact car they sat in (missing shift knob, that's another story)
I also have first hand accounts from some techs and other employees at the dealership that that bastard owner abused the **** out of the car. He was trying to race them and just drove it to hell.
So.... could this have been caused by a really ****ty break in during the first 400 miles?
Well, it looks like my baby's going to have her revenge. If all goes well, I'll be getting my new short block and I'll be able to break her in the right way.
Anybody have any thoughts as to why this happened? Manufacturer defect? Abuse in the break in?
Well I'll keep you all posted and let you know how this plays out.

Ok, spoke with them during lunch....
Mitsubishi has authorized the replacement of the short block. The dealership was instructed to not even disassemble the broken one and to just ship it back. It looks like they're going to take care of me on this one.
Now, if they're shipping a short block, does that mean that all the parts, (block, crank, bearings, rods, pistons) is completely assembled by the factory and all the mitsu tech has to do is bolt it up to the head? I hope so, I really don't want some Joe blow tech that's never set up a bottom end go fumbling around with mine.
At any rate, so far things are looking up. The block should be here by next Tuesday and the car complete (hopefully) by the end of the week.
Mods - Tint, stereo head unit, and stereo/gauge relocation (swapped). Like I said, I had the parts for the Buschur stage 1 in the trunk. Actually pretty funny because the exhaust portion was in the cabin laying between the front seats to the back seat. I made the tow truck driver swing by my apt. before going to mitsu so I could drop everything off. I told him the parts were for a buddy. He laughed and said sure, I see that all the time.
Oil - 1500 miles, original oil. I checked the levels at 950 miles and they were fine. I checked the levels again after this occurred, although the oil was a bit dark, it was fine.
A part of me does want to see if I can just get a new car due to the way I was treated by the sales staff. I highly doubt it. They actually just got a black '05 GSR with the sun/sound/leather package... those speakers and that leather... beautiful.
At any rate, thanks for the replies, I'll definitely keep you guys posted as this whole thing plays out.

I should be getting the car back tomorrow, they needed to overnight some gaskette that didn't come in the kit.
From as best as I can tell, the've replaced the block, replaced the oil pump, flushed the oil cooler and lines, cleaned and rebuilt the head, and put everything back together just the way it was before.
We'll find out for sure when I get her back.
I tell you what, it's a freaky sight to see your 1 month old car with the hood on the roof, parts EVERYWHERE, and an ominous gaping hole where the engine should be.
I just hope that tech got everything right.

UPDATE!!!
Monday, 7/18. I just spoke to mitsubishi, the car is not complete, it should be finished today. The service advisor that I was dealing with is now on vacation for a week. I inquired again about oil cooler and lines and they said since it's warranty work, they do as mitsubishi tells them. I asked if they could ping mitsubihi and tell them my concerns to see how they respond and I was told I would need to speak with the service manager who would have to call me back. If I don't hear from him by noon, I will call again. I also asked him about the clutch, but since he wasn't dealing with the car from the get go, he doesnt' know. I'll need to ask the manager about that as well.
Question: They say the block is comming, pre-assembled, with synthec already in it. If this is the case, can I still drain it and put in normal oil for the break-in in order to seat the rings better? I thought once you have synthetic in there, you shouldn't go back to regular.
David, I would be more than happy to get my car up by you guys for the first oil change and thourough inspection. Thank you very much for helping me out with this.
again, I'll keep you guys updated, hopefully I'll get her back today.
On a side note, I've heard that the Ohio lemon laws say that if a car is in the shop for 30 days in it's first year, then it's a buy back. I don't know if that's consecutive days or not, I'm going to investigate that.

god damn **** mother ****ing ***** ass holes <insert profanity here> mitsubishi dealer ****s!!!
I get a call that the car is done. YIPPIE!! I go pick it up, they're all excited they're done, she's clean and looking good. I pop the hood, everything is looking good, engine sounds good. I'm outa here!
I pull out on the streat, give her some gas, low boost, feels good. I give her some more gas, boost climbs to .7 bar and holds... 6000 rpm, still .7 bar. MOTHER! I try it again. Holds at .7 bar. I whip a u-ie, and go back.
"Yeah, the car's not done, It's not as fast as it was before I dropped it off."
Service Mgr. - "Nah, no way I test drove it myself, it's plenty fast, how fast do you think it should be?"
"well faster than it is now. I drove the car for a month before it was in here, and I know it was alot faster before you did your work."
"How can you tell?"
"Well, this little guage here that measure the boost of the turbo... see, this used to go up to 1.3, maybe 1.4, now it's only going to .7. Plus I can feel it"
"well sir, everything is done, my tech is gone. there's nothing I can do now."
"Good, then I'll leave it here so he can look at it first thing in the morning."
"oh no, that car's done you can take it home with you now."
"Excuse me? This car is not done, I am not taking it home, I'm getting back in my rental and the car is staying here untill you guys complete your job in making my 35,000 dollar car worth my damn 35,000 dollars!"
"Well I'm going to have to disagree with you there now, the only car you're taking home tonight is your evo"
"Ok, if you can show me in writing that this car is supposed to only have .7 bar of boost, then I will take it home tinight. But I promise you I will be back tommarow with 20 pieces of paper saying it should have 1.3 bar or 18/19 PSI. But if I have to do that there will be hell to pay."
After 45 minutes, he couldn't find anything that gave him a spec on the amount of boost the turbo should be making. Finally I call AMS (THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP AMS!!!!) and they confirmed it for me that it was 1.3. He called somebody that he knew that worked there and had an evo (although his has a mbc) and asked him. He too said 1.3.
So after wasting MORE of my time, the car is still in the shop.

COLLAPSED VACUUM LINE!

this story just gets better every day.
I picked up the car, again....
Two blocks away I'm already pulling a U turn to go back. The engine sounds and feels like ass. 3000 rpm and it sounds like I'm running a delete pipe. In first and second gear, the motor winds up before the turbo even has time to spool. I take my foot off the gas At 4000 rpm to let the engine idle down and I hear a really loud raspy almost tinny sound. When I take my foot off the accellerator, the boost guage instantaneously drops to full vac.
When I get back in the shop, they get the tech that worked on the car. I explain what the car's doing and he pulls out a little brass nipple from his pocket. WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING he pulls the boost guage hose off the "T" connector going to the manifold and pops the brass nipple in. He tells me that it didn't matter whether that was in or not and that he was helping me out to get a better reading on the boost guage. He then hops in and we go for a spin around the block. He tells me the motor sounds fine, and that it has a smooth idle etc. etc.
We get back to the shop and I tell them I want to take out the brand new one that's on the showroom floor for comparison.
Get this: The new, untittled evo that was on thier showroom floor is now on the rack with the belly-pan removed. They needed to put it up on the rack to compare it to mine in order to troubleshoot. The service manager was not there and so there was nobody that could make a decision on whether the car was done.
Well I'll tell you what, I will be back there tomorrow and I will be taking that new one on the road with the Service Manager. As soon as we're done with that I'm going to demand that mitsubishi buys my car back because there is ABSOLUTELY no reason I should have a car that's 2 months old and has been in the shop for almost three weeks. Not to mention the fact that I now have an engine that was built by joe schmoe mechanic who isn't even smat enough to turn the motor off when unplugging and damn vacuum line going directly into the manifold to replace a damn part that he removed while troubleshooting. ARGH!
On a side note, when I dropped my car off on July 2nd, I called the salesman and told him my temporary plates were going to expire on the 7th. I hadn't gotten a call about MY plates being in, but they need to be tracked down and put on the car before I pick it up. Whell, while I was driving with the tech he mentioned that he wasn't comfortable driving the car around with expired tags. WTF!!!! WHERE ARE MY ****ING PLATES!!! yeah I ripped the sales manager a new one about that. Those sons of *****es were going to let me just drive off the lot with expired plates.
I think I'm going to get a 400HP GTO.

We then went over to new car sales and without question the sales supervisor handed over the keys to a new one. Now I'm really pissed.
Last night a guy approached me and asked if my car just got out of the shop at Dennis Mitsubishi. He tells me that he was a detailer there and that while he was detailing the car, he heard that the car was demo'd for a week before it was sold. After the demo, the car had a knocking sound in the engine and was then fixed.
I just went there to talk to the GM about this. He said it wasn't true, he also said that I was a liar and that I keep making up stories and that I'm trying to break the car in order to get a new one.
At this point I'm going to call a lawyer. I'm also going to contact the BBB. This has gone on way too far.

7 miles - pre-delivery inspection
358 miles - replaced missing intake clips
That's all the history they had on it. they couldn't give me a part number or tell me exactly what clips or what that ment, just that they were $1.75 a piece.
that's odd if you ask me.

I brought it to Robi last week, they confirmed that something is definately wrong. The guy at Robi actually called the service manager at Dennis to tell him that. The car was brought back to Dennis and now I'm waiting again.

I brought it to Robi last week, they confirmed that something is definately wrong. The guy at Robi actually called the service manager at Dennis to tell him that. The car was brought back to Dennis and now I'm waiting again.
Day 20... 10 more and that poor MR's a lemon.
