I've been reading up on water injection a lot recently and thought I would post about it here seeing how the claims of hp are quite good. Basically it's setup somewhat like nitrous in you have a bottle or water tank with a pump, pressure regulator, your hoses and an injector. To put it simply it injects a fine mist of water into your intake tract and considerably lowers the temp and increases the air density also, and we all know cooler more dense air combustes better. Guys I've talked to online claimed anywhere 10 to 30 hp gains. One guy with a 400hp dsm dyno'd his and showed 35hp more to the wheels. Biggest advantage I think is that it has no negatives to it like nitrous with increased engine wear, or chance of detonation, but the gains are nowhere is big as nitrous. Also the kits for my car are as cheap as $200 and nitrous is more than twice as much. I plan to get this this summer because it's a much cheaper and safer alternative to nitrous and is legal to have on the street.

-Keeps your motor clean -Lowers intake temperature -Prevents detonation

3rd one being most important. Detonation-

my luck the little valve would break somehow, and i would get hydrolocked...that would blow ass!

It has a pump that regulates flow either way.

I don't know if you would gain much from it anyway Ben. Turbo cars see big gains because of the higher engine temps but I'm sure it would be beneficial to most any car especially in hot climates.

Ive heard plenty about the systems effectivness on turbo cars.. But high compression NA motors? Im not sure.. Might be something worthwhile to investigate.

nah i wasnt even thinking about doing it to my car, hypothetically if i was you and doing it to you car i would ahve this problem...so, anywho, alteast its got a check valve, im gonna have to read into them now to see what the hell your planning on doing.

that actually sounds pretty sweet, and cheap which is always a good thing.....let me know when you get it done....I havent heard of that yet...

It would be a good mod for your car. Plus all you have to do to refill your bottle is go to your sink! Once I get rid of the brake virus on my car that will be next in line after suspension.

Deff. sounds like a much beter investment than nitrous in my opinion....

Nitrous has MUCH more effect than water injection. You may typically find a 8~hp benefit from water injection. Despite the fact that you ARE making the intake temp cooler, youre also adding a non-explosive substance to the mix inside the cylender. The more HP you have, the more gain youl see.
Like i said though, its mainly installed to prevent detonation on cars with highly advanced timing. When you advance timing you gain horsepower, but also run the risk of blowing a ringland or detonating (which is when the temps inside the cylender it gets so hot it just explodes itself without a spark.). Water injection lowers that temp.

I've read about dsm's gaining as much as 20hp to the wheels with dyno tuning. The kit alone will likely net a lightly modded car 8-12 hp. You will see far bigger gains with nitrous but will pay in the long run or sooner if you don't do it right. I personally will accept a smaller gain in hp that is actually good for your motor vs. one that is detrimental.

Id install water injection on my car wether it showed physical horsepower gain or not.
