Mobil 1 has come out with some new oils that claim can last 5k, 7500, or 15k miles before needing changed. Of course as long as you use their high capacity filters and dont race, idle a lot etc etc... The idea of changing oil once a year is nice not to mention cutting down on oil consumption considerably. They 100% guarantee their claims on mileage. Obviously for people like me these oils don't help because I do race and I wonder about how they would last in turbo or high performance engines even if it's not raced because of the much higher demands. What do you guys think?

I think when the oil hits shelves theyl mention something about "high performance use"

Yep, the guarantee is for "Normal Driving" conditions.

The high endurance oil will still get dirty after 3000 miles wont it? Isnt that a good enough reason to change your oil every 3k? It takes me 10 minutes to change mine I dont see the big deal with wanting to put it off that long.

I change mine every 2500, just because...I don't agree with the 15k oil changes, it seems way too overdue at that point, even with good filtration, and i use the Amsoil synthetics and filters. If anyone needs any Amsoil stuff, I can get it pretty cheap, I know someone who works for them and i get the employee pricing...

Well a lot of auto makers are making the service intervals farther and father apart , so they can claim there car requires less maintence.....The oil has more to do then just lube for fiction, its also there to remove dirt and hydrocarbons from inside the engine!!! synthetics are good for a 5000 mile change. but i only use that as a coushin of comfort for when i dont have the money to change it, then it can wait a couple of weeks if needed, but its still only good for about 3 months.
And what do they define as Normal driving conditions,

I think a lot of it depends on your driving, and the particular vehicle as well...
My new Trailblazer sends me oil life readings through Onstar, it's sort of neat, it runs diagnostics on it's self and lets me know what is going on with it. It also tells me what percentage of oil life i have left until i need to change it...at this point it looks to be about every 10,000 miles.
It's some weird crap to get an email from your truck, but I know when it needs changed and about how far I can still go on it, useful stuff to know.
