UPDATE: SOLD February 19th to a guy in San Diego California, shipped it out to him...a sad day, I miss it, i will have another faster one though..
I bought this car completely by chance in June of 2004, I had not been looking for a car, I was actually trying to sell my last project car, an 87 t-top 5.0 Mustang....story for another day, spent a ton of cash, still had a slow Ford to show for it...and I had a Chevy s-10 already to drive, so i needed another car like i needed another hole in the head. It was too good to pass up, and i'm glad i snatched it up quickly, there were 3 other people there to see the car and I was able to get to it at 7am, I rode into work with my roommate to pick it up, I was sold before i saw it..
My roommate at the time was a car dealer, he had taken in a really nice 3000GT in trade for a new Corvette one Friday night and was telling me all about it when he got in from work. It had low miles for it's age and was in good shape, plus i got a set of 18" wheels with it, along with the stock 16's, plus a stereo system that cost at least a grand... I had a sold tag on it in the inspection area before the dealership even opened for business that next morning, and i STOLE it from them for cheap, the management thought it wasn't worth dirt and they didn't care, they were happy to be rid of it...they were worried it wouldn't sell to begin with. I wrote them a check and drove it home, then i borrowed a truck from them and drove to Mt. Vernon Ohio to pick up all the extra parts and wheels for it. i saw the car before it went into detail and it was already spotless..I drove it before they even got a chance to finish prepping it.
Since new, I got it with 110,000 miles on it, with 8 bald tires, and in need of a little TLC.
It is a full-option SL, which is just shy of being a VR4, it has the electronic controlled suspension, leather, removable glass top, and premium sound which was upgraded already with JL Audio equipment and a Pioneer Premier CD player.
Here's a pic taken in the early fall, it had just come back from the body shop and I swapped to the stock wheels for the winter. I don't drive it often this time of the year, just nice days..
It has had the following done to it since i got it...
60K Engine Service
-New Belts
-New Tensioners
-New Water Pump
-New High Temp Thermostat
-8 New Tires...ouch, glad i know a guy in the business
-Repainted most of the car last summer, minus the hood which is scheduled to be replaced in the spring w/ CF
-New Fuel Pump
-New Fuel Filter, plus an additional custom in line filter that's EASY to change..unlike the stock one under the damn battery on the firewall buried.
-New Starter
-Optima Red-Top Battery
-Headlights reconditioned by body shop and re-masked and painted.
-De-Badged in rear when repainted
-Custom Exhaust, made to order by a small specialty racing shop, all stainless and welded.
-New Brakes, upgraded
-Custom Cool-Air intake with K&N monster cone
-New Wires & Plugs, PVC Valve, all the tune-up goodies
-New sunroof seal, and opening mechanism
Planned Additions:
Carbon Fiber Hood
Stainless Pedal Covers
Ferrari-Style gated billet aluminum short shifter
Front and rear sway bar & bushing upgrade, and add front and rear strut bars
New Window Tint
Finish Custom stereo work
Many more things probably...still trying to decide what to do, either buy a VR4, or just make mine a twin-turbo and do the conversion. It's expensive, but i'll know it's done right if i build it and put in the parts i want.
I may sell it in a year or two when i'm "done" and buy a VR4 and start it all over again...
