I was wondering if anyone on here is using a the 10 dollar ebay mufflers or anything? Most people bash on them pretty hard, yet everyone I know or have heard got them absolutly loves them. I brought this up on a different forum and got a ton of different responses. Most people who had them saying theyre worth it and other saying to get an aftermarket brand. Yet, blowing $800 on a comptech axleback is not really in my budget. Yet, spending $50 on some ebay mufflers could be. I just want the mufflers for the nosie, since apparantly Accord V6s actually lose torque. The dynos I've looked at were like a 10hp increase and then a 6lbs. torque decrease. Apparantly, a catback makes an even bigger loss. So, I wanna go low loss, hoping my V2 will bring back any loss their is to around my 190lbs. torque area. So, what do you guys think? I was looking at something along this line... [/img] And before the bashing begins, I wanna show you a video a guy made with his ebay exhausts to show people. s36.photobucket.com/albums/e25/nexson1/?action=view¤t=100_1753.flv

What you really need to do is ask yourself, what is it worth to you?
They both will do essentially the same thing, sound just about the same, and have about the same overall fit and finish (for the most part, don't start bashing, i know the difference here, I've bought my share of them).
I have had the $20 APC Generic type exhaust to the $800 Neuspeed exhaust that I installed on my old Volkswagen. In the end, the $800 one looks nicer, and sounds better, but is it worth the extra $700? Honestly, no, but it looked cool, the car wasn't that much faster either...
More importantly, will you be able to get that money back out of the car when you sell it? Or did you plan on driving it for the next 20 years and just don't care? Honestly, these are the things you need to think about. They're all very relavant questions and need answered honestly, that will tell you what you need to buy.
As for the 6-10hp and Torque number increases, it's all essentially bullshit, marketing. Each indivudual application is different.
I have experience with these as well. I helped my old roommate build up a Honda Civic about 4 years ago, and he bought a bunch of aftermarket no-name stuff for it.
Let me put it to you this way, with all the parts we put on that Civic, if we sat and totalled all of the alleged numbers, it would be nearly 275HP and comparable increases in torque numbers, but we all know that just isn't the case... don't believe everything that you read and see on the internet...

Well, the main reason I want it is for the sound. I could care less about HP and torque increase. I love the low growl sound that guy had on his.
I do actually plan on keeping the car probably for another 7 years or so. So, I'm content with modding to my hearts desire.
The 10hp increase and 6lbs. torque decrease dyno I looked at was for a Comptech Axleback exhaust. The one I would get if I had the money.
So I figure I'll lose some torque with this and maybe gain like 5hp or something. That I'm fine with.
I wanna do this mainly, for the sound that the car makes. Plus I hate my tips and the stock exhaust is just ugly.

I had an old roommate who got one that looked exactly like that for about $30 shipped on eBay. He put it on his 2001 Civic using simple U-bolt clamps and merge pipes from 1.75" to 2.5" (or whatever the muffler inlet was). I'm not sure if it was just the way he had it installed or if it was the quality of the muffler, but it sounded like total ass. By no means did it have a nice low tone, but it was what everyone refers to as the "bumble bee" muffler.
Personally, I've only used Moroso Spiral Flow mufflers. I got it from Jegs for $50 or so and it sounds excellent. Never does it buzz or get raspy, but then again I'm not N/A so that has some affect on it. I would consider staying away from eBay though unless it's a brand like Magnaflow or Moroso. there are plenty of other name brands out there as well.

Thats true, but I think I've yet to find a civic with a custom exhaust that doesnt sound like shit. So, it makes quite a difference.
Plus, I've heard the exact ones I'm getting on a car like mine before and they sounded awesome. Was a low deep sound.
Only problem is, I'm trying to find a cheap place to get them installed. Its just welding anyway.

That actually doesnt sound too bad. How do you stop it from rusting though? Is their a specific thing the big shops use? And how long is "after time"? And how much you think on asking? I got two of these that need to replace my currents. But my money flow is very low, since I got monthly payments. These are the ones I'm getting...

The reason it rusts is because it just flux-core wire. If I had gas and has stainless-steel wire, it wouldn't rust. The thing that gets me is, those welds haven't rusted to this day, but my SS muffler is covered with surface rust. So when i say rust, I don't mean that it'll only last for so many months and then fall of. I don't doubt that it'll last forever. If I had my camera still, I'd take a picture of my muffler compared to my welds. I bet the muffler has begun to rust more than the welds have.

Ha, well I only need mine to last a year or so. Cause I'm probably gonna be selling the car down the road.
You know how to put them on? I'm not sure how the shops do it. But I think they cut the original off or something...

When I had my stock muffler replaced on my car before I ever got into cars, I had it done at Midas in Marietta and they used a sawzall and just cut it off, used a U-bolt clamp and bolted it onto the pipe. It was pretty much a hackjob because it leaked. Obviously though the car has come a long way since then.
It's fairly simple to weld it up. Assuming the muffler inlet is larger than the current exhaust pipe, you'll need a piece that converts from you pipe size to your muffler size. As far as mounting it, I'll have to look as to how the factory hanger works for the muffler. I usually buy 1/4" - 5/16" round steel from Lowes, bend it to the shape of the pipe and weld it to the pipe, and then that bracket hooks to the rubber piece to hold the exhaust to the car, but allow it to flex with the engine. You can see the rubber piece in the 2nd picture I posted up.

Ya, I actually was talking to a few places today. Midas quoted me at $175 for the whole job. So I wasnt exactly fond of the idea of that.
I'm trying to get it all done whichin a simple period.
Would you be able to cut it or should I find another place to do it? And would you be able to pick the pieces up, I'll come with you and what not and pay for them. I'm just not very mechanically smart. I'm a youngin.

All you've got to do is pay for the parts and I'm game to help anyone out for free. I've got all the tools needed to weld up turbo manfiolds, exhast systems, and who knows what else so cutting it is the easy part.
It's not something I can do this very weekend because since I moved into my apartment a few weeks ago, I just got a call from the people today after work and they have a garage available so I'm going to get access to it tomorrow and start moving in my tools and build up the work benches again.

If you are going just for the sound then buy the cheaper one. It doesn't make since to spend $800 on something that does what a $50 one does. But I know for a fact that these parts that are sold on ebay that are knockoffs of the real thing do have a down side. Not all but must are made very poorly and can cause damage to your car when you put them on. I for one wont even look at ebay to buy parts for my cars because of these reason. If you are just looking to make to car sound different then go with the $50 one.
