Dan's story:
Myself and MR2's go back over 5 years ago when i bought my first gen 2 MR2. It was a 1992 N/A in rare red. it was october 2000 and i had just started school at kent state. the car had 101,000 miles when i got it in baltimore and it was totally stock. i didnt know anyone that had ever had one of these, let alone worked on one. That car educated me thoroughly.
At that point, i didnt know that an MR2 message board existed. (i actually didnt know until after i bought my current car). so that left me to learn for myself. I did a full suspension on the car and intake/exhaust. and dont even think about giving me shit for the air scoop, because i made it very functional. but quite frankly, it was slow as piss. i was getting bored...
i sold the car in january of 2003, and wasnt sure what i wanted to do next. i looked at FD's, 3000GT vr-4's (for about 30 seconds), and actually almost bought a 93 300zx TT. however, that didnt work out. i looked at AWD dsm's because i remembered test driving them when they were new at different dealers...
then i came across something i was familiar with... it was a 93 MR2 turbo with 67,500 miles. original female owner. all records. all stock.
but, the car was in atlanta. i contacted someone i knew down there who knew MR2s. he went and looked at the car and said everything looked great. $9000 and a week later, this showed up on a car transporter at the dealership i was working at:
i was pumped. i was also insane at the same time. i spent 9 grand on something i had never even driven. i had never even driven a turbo MR2 before. that first tank of gas, i averaged 17 mpg. sweeeet... a new all time low!
the engine as it looked then:
i soon thereafter stumbled upon what would become MR2OC.com. i attended my first MR2 meet in summer of 2003 in columbus. my car was still all stock at that point
i then started modifying. my very first mod was a Blitz Nur-Spec R exhaust which took me many months to get.
things began to progress... i put on some 94 MR2 taillights, among other things in the motor.
in this picture, i had added a gauge pod. also, the factory cd player is still in there. i later upgraded to a unit from a 99 4runner, and then to the Denon unit i have now.
last winter, after adding a downpipe, my turbo promptly bought the farm... and in a big, spectacular, and smokey way. i then upgraded to something else. i bought a CT20b off a guy in japan. that was the last major mod i have done to the motor. this is basically the newest engine shot i have. if you compare to the picture above, you can see many differences...
i have organized 2 MR2 meets in northeast ohio the last 2 summers. last years was a big success.
my friends and i got a sponsorship from Dunlop tires last year. I had my car, along with my friends in the Dunlop booth at Hot Import Nights in cleveland.
and this is basically how it sits now....
My dyno sheet. 1st two runs done at 14 psi. 3rd run at 15-16 psi. it was hot as balls that day, which didnt help...
